The UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs Present a Paper at the 70th International Astronautical Congress (IAC)

The UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs, the Abu Dhabi-based global innovation hub, presented a paper on the success of the GeoTech Innovation Program at the 70th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), that took place in Washington D.C., in the United States of America, on 21-25 October 2019.

The International Astronautical Congress is hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and gathers top world researchers and experts in space sciences to discuss the advancement and progress of space in its various features. IAC included a rich program with nearly 200 technical sessions, panel discussions and special events in efforts to inspire global innovations in space.

The paper presented at IAC is jointly written by the UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs, whose researchers and contributors include Dr. Fatima Al Aydaroos, Dr. Mohammed Adnan, Fatima Abdulla, Hanan Khaldi, Anas Zeineddine and Dr. Khaled Al Hashemi under the title, “Entrepreneurship in the UAE Private Space Sector: The Geotech Innovation Program.”

In alignment with a shared vision to positioning the UAE as a global leader in the space sciences and contributing to the local space sector, the UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs launched the GeoTech Innovation Program, in efforts to encourage UAE-based entrepreneurs to build innovative solutions by leveraging big data analytics and Earth observation using satellite data, within the following areas;

1. Urban and rural land management

2. Disaster and crisis management

3. Coaster border security

The paper presented at IAC discussed the objectives, phases, and outcomes of executing the GeoTech Innovation Program, which successfully carried out the incubation of two Emirati startups, namely Ayn Astra and Farmin. The incubation program, which awarded funding of AED100,000 in cash and AED500,000 in kind to both winning startups enabled the startups to transform their innovative ideas into commercially viable and scalable market-ready products.

The GeoTech Innovation Program aligns with the National Space Strategy 2030, which sets the general framework for the UAE's space industry and activities carried out by public and private sectors for the years leading up to 2030.
