The UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs open online applications for the GeoTech Innovation Program
Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs have opened online applications for the GeoTech Innovation Program. The program will accelerate the growth of three start-ups and transform their innovative ideas into commercially viable and scalable market-ready products and/or services. Online applications will be open until January 7, 2019.
Applicants will be expected to work on large Geographic Information System (GIS) data to develop solutions in different areas such as Urban and Rural Land Management, Disaster and Crisis Management and Coastal Border Security. By promoting entrepreneurship and cutting-edge research in data science fields, the GeoTech Innovation Program forms part of the UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs’ joint efforts to contribute to UAE Vision 2021.
In January 2019, three start-ups will be selected for an exclusive and customized incubation program at Krypto Labs. Through the combination of Krypto Labs’ professional training, mentorship, inspiring co-working space and access to a global network of industry experts, the program will facilitate the enrolled start-ups as they transform their concepts into market-ready products and services.
H.E. Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency said: “The GeoTech Innovation Program is the result of our ongoing work to develop a culture of research and innovation throughout the UAE, particularly in scientific and technological fields related to space exploration and utilization. This is one of the fastest growing private sector industries in the world, and local entrepreneurial endeavours will significantly bolster our national space programme.”
H.E. Dr. Al Ahbabi added: “On a similar note, we are constantly driving the development of advanced skills through education and outreach programs that are available to students at a range of levels and age groups. One of our current priorities is to help develop science, technology, engineering and maths education across the board, which is crucial to fostering an entrepreneurial environment.”
Dr. Saleh Al Hashemi, Managing Director of Krypto Labs, pointed out the relevance of cooperation and coordination between Governmental entities and private sector institutions to establish a qualitative leap in the space technology field and said: “The GeoTech Innovation Program represents a major step in how Krypto Labs maximizes space technology innovation in the UAE through consistently unlocking untapped capabilities in the young Emirati entrepreneurs in various fields related to space, accelerating entrepreneurship initiatives among them, and providing them with the necessary secure and stable incubation programs and environment to develop data-driven models.”
He added: “The GeoTech Innovation Program also marks the alignment of the UAE Space Agency and Krypto Labs’ visions to bring the minds of young Emirati talents into light, and an opportunity to explore existing and future opportunities to foster innovative Data Science research in line with the UAE Vision 2021.”
